FAQ & Operating Manual

The operating manual / FAQ / how it works combo! :D

  • make sure to whitelist omghelp@projectdukkan.com and noreply@projectdukkan.com to avoid any lost communication.
  • additional order quantities can be updated during the checkout phase.
  • this is a community driven marketplace where trust plays a huge factor; on that note we suggest you be very rational when it comes to leaving a seller / buyer feedback by giving the opposite party enough time to sort any problems before condemning them to the depths of BRUSHSTRIKE Regularnegativity! Also worth mentioning is that a product feedback is not the same as a buyer feedback.

Your account

Below account options can be accessed once signed in and then by hitting the “your account” button located on the top of the website. These options enable better control over your account / sales / purchases and other settings. There are a few features we have enabled and few others on their way, we are open to suggestions as well so help us to make life easier for you.

We have tried to explain them in brief, also note that the tabs; “my buys”, “live” and sold” have an additional sub menu to make it easier to track items between auctions, buy it now and classifieds. Additionally there is also a search box under the live tab to make it a tad easier to shuffle through pages of items; this works with items numbers and item names.

  • my account: more like your profile settings that contains your personal information
  • my wishlist: a wishlist where items you might like to purchase sometime in the future, think of it as a bookmark:
  • my buys: contains all your purchases, an easy way to print receipts, look back at the sellers you purchased from and ability to rate them. (we strongly suggest rating sellers as this is what builds this trust based community and also give them an opportunity to resolve issues before you rate them negatively)
  • live: all your current for sale items, here you can search, edit and pause / block items. Pausing an item will move it from its live state and not locatable on the website. You however will be able to locate it under the paused tab and reinitiate / unblock it at any time.
  • sold: all sold items
  • paused: current paused/blocked items
  • my referral list: a list of your referrals, a useful feature once we enable the referral reward system :d
  • my email subscriptions: tailor your subscriptions to your needs
  • my bid history: you still reading? I'm impressed. This basically contains all your bids, really useful when you have forgotten what products you been chasing.
  • my shipping address: your shipping address, always make sure it’s up to date before making a purchases

Buying / Selling formats

Projectdukkan has 3 methods of listings ; 1) classifieds 2) buy it now, 3) auctions (with a combination of auctions and buy it now) buy it now is the traditional way of shopping seen all over the internet, i.e., you like something you add it to cart at its advertised price and checkout; simple as that.

Classifieds

Classifieds are your traditional online advertisement / online classifieds system where you could list a product, service, products wanted ad etc.

Buy it now

Buy it now is basically our fixed price solution where the price is as advertised, simply add the item(s) to cart in preferred quantity (if available) and checkout. Always check seller ratings, read reviews about your products on the internet and also double check shipping / final shipping fees to avoid any confusion.

Auctions

Auctions are a little tricky in the sense that they are not as streamlined as "buy it now." basically an auctions works in the mechanics of a traditional auctions system where the highest bidder wins. Auctions enable buyers and sellers to get great deals and the combo of the two makes things a little bit more flexible; for example, a seller might want to see what it's worth to sell a particular item without compromising his/her value, so in this case they could have a reserve price which would restrict the item being sold under the sellers comfortable price.

Auction lingo / definitions

  • bid: accepted amount payable by the buyer
  • bid increment: minimum amount to add on top of the current bid
  • max bid: a maximum amount the buyer places for a auction although the system would only bid the next minimum increment on his/her behalf
  • reserve price: amount chosen by the seller in private which is the minimum required for an auction to be closed, if by bidding a reserve price is met or crosses 0 in the case of a "no reserve price"; the highest bidder is now eligible to win the auction once time is run out or seller deems fit

if you're new to auctions concept online; they can seem a tad bit mysterious or overwhelming but we assure you that is not the case. Please understand that a bid entered by you as a buyer is binding and should be honored, this is what would enable the community and system to work as designed and thrive: so please consider all product descriptions and auction time frames before actually placing your bid(s).

Auctions come in two flavors, 1) auctions 2) auctions and buy it now combo

Auctions in detail (with a sample scenario)

An auction page has a slightly different layout then the traditional "buy it now" offering; we have a "place bid" button instead of a add to cart to begin with, the current price status = current bid by the highest bidder is shown and the auction is won by that highest bidder when the auctions auto closes at its allocated time or when a seller wishes to close the auction earlier.

A user can place a bid with the set minimum bid increment pre-defined by the seller, buyers also have the option to view the bid history of any particular item. As a buyer you can freely input the highest you would like to pay for that product as we have enabled the automatic bidding feature; this enables you as a buyer to walk away with the best deal possible as you might end up paying much lower than your max bid. Our system basically saves your max bid while only bidding using the "bid increment" value to outbid the current leader of the auction thus ensuring you pay the lowest required to lead the auction.

Things to remember (auctions)

  • bid the max you are willing to pay and the system will do the rest
  • you always have an option to bid manually
  • if another buyer has a higher max bid than you, eventually the system will outbid your max and put him in the lead, this continues until the auction time runs out and whoever is the highest bidder will lead until auction is timed out or closed by the seller
  • you might pay less than your max bid
  • you have to buy the product if you win
  • other buyers might also use the automatic bidding system
  • reserve price is only known to the seller

Auction sample scenario

Start

Leo decides to list a used watch with a minimum starting bid of 5.00 aed and a duration of 5 days with a minimum bid increment of 2 aed.

  • starting / current bid: 5.00 aed; minimum bid increment: 2.00 aed
the first bid is from toby, who bids 15 aed even though the minimum increment is 2.00 aed. At this moment, the system will accept the 16.00 aed but only bid 7.00 aed on john's behalf since there are no other bidders at the moment.
  • current bid: 7.00 aed; minimum bid increment by 2.00 aed = 9.00 aed
the second bid is from maya, who bids 9.00 aed; at this point since john's max bid was 15 aed, our system would automatically bid another 2.00 aed on his behalf pushing the current bid to 11.00 aed.
  • current bid: 9.00 aed ; minimum bid increment by 2.00 aed = 11.00 aed
maya wants the watch desperately and tries again, bidding 11.00 aed. Toby's maximum is still higher, so the system bids again on his behalf putting him on top again.
  • current bid: 11.00 aed ; minimum bid increment by 2.00 aed = 13.00 aed
relentless, maya tries again, bidding 21.00 aed. This is higher than toby's maximum, so the current bid is now upped to 17.00 aed (toby's maximum plus one bid over) maya is now in the lead and our system will auto bid on her behalf if required until a max of 25.00 aed.
  • current bid: 17.00 aed ; minimum bid increment by 2.00 aed = 19.00 aed during the final moments of the auction, a new bidder named timmy bids the minimum of aed 19.00. Projectdukkan's system now automatically bids on maya's behalf, outbidding timmy by one increment
  • winning bid: 21.00 aed ; winner: maya
the auction ends after exactly five days. Maya having the highest bid wins but she only pays 21.00 aed and not her highest 25 as no one out bid her max bid. The seller always has the option to end an auction earlier; either with a winner as long as the reserve price is met or without a winner as long as the reserve price wasn't met.

End

Auctions and buy it now combo

In a scenario of "auctions and buy it now"; you would see the usual add to cart together with an option to bid.

Auctions enable buyers and sellers to get great deals and the combo of the two makes things a little bit more flexible; for example, a seller might want to see what it's worth to sell a particular item without compromising his/her value, so in this case, he/she would add an auction start price but at the same time have a "buy it now" price. A buyer in this case could either pick up the item at the advertised price or try and negotiate with the buyer via bids, the seller could either accept bids and close the auction or have a automated bare minimum price "reserve price" set where once the auctions surpasses that limit, the buyer could win. This could work in the favor of both parties, seller could always test the market and maybe get a higher price based on demand in a market where the demand is far less, the buyer ends up being in the position of being able to get the best deal possible as long as he/she is patient.
